Analyzing the current situation of rural building reconstruction in post disaster in Sichuan

An earthquake measured at 8.0 on the Richter scale occurred in Wenchuan district on 12th May, 2008. It is the most destructive, the most widespread and the most catastrophic seismic disaster since the founding of P.R.C. There are 1,443,800 household rural buildings to be strengthened, 1,911,700 household rural buildings and 5,735,100 rooms to be reconstructed only within the Sichuan Province. It is urgent and crucial to reconstruct the rural building, as normal life is hoped to be restored as soon as possible with limited funds. This paper analyzed, roundly and thoroughly, the current situation of post-disaster rural building reconstruction, especially on site selection, architectural forms and corresponding financing and management. Meanwhile, comprehensive analysis on restoration circumstance and progress was conducted, and suggestions were provided afterward. Through corn prehensive analysis, this paper, hopefully, helps to build up a foundation for decision making on the issue of rural building reconstruction in the future.
