It has been proven by numerous international studies that cigarette smoking is atremendous danger to health not only for the smokers themselves, but also forpeople, who inhale the cigarettes smoke in a “passive” way, that means withoutsmoking by themselves. In this paper recent results of online measurements ofparticulate matter PM10, PM2.5 and PM1, caused by drivers, who smoke inautomobiles, are presented. PM10, PM2.5 and PM1 represent particulate matterwith an aerodynamical diameter less than 10μm, 2.5μm and 1μm repectively.Examples of measured concentrations are presented for four different cars. It turnedout that the concentrations measured for PM10 vary between several hundredμg/m3, when the car ventilation system is operating with full power, up to values ofabout several thousand μg/m3 at peak levels in small cars, when the car ventilationsystem is switched off. These values can be regarded as extremely high comparedwith the European limit value of 50 μg/m3 for PM10 as the one day mean value inambient air.
