In this paper, a transfer matrix approach is presented to evaluate and analyze the acoustic characteristics of underwater piezoelectric composite absorber, which can be applied to actively reduce sound reflection and transmission upon a given sound wave excitation. Piezoelectric composite absorber is composed of two piezoelectric layers and several rubber layers. Using the transfer matrix of sound pressure and particle velocity of piezoelectric layer and rubber layer and the continuity condition at the interface between two layers, the total transfer matrix of the piezoelectric composite absorber is calculated by using recursive method. Then, the control voltage of the composite absorbers is deduced. By numerical calculation, we analyze the variation of the control voltage of the composite absorber when the parameters of rubber layers are changed.
