Dynamic Geometry Monitoring System in Sutong Bridge Construction

Sutong Bridge is the largest cable-stayed bridge in the world and the construction process iscomplicated. It is located in lower reaches of Yangtze River and the effects of monsoons and diurnalcycles of temperature change are severe, which will bring great difficulties for construction control.In expectance of significant deformations of the pylon towers and cantilevers caused by wind loadsand thermal effects, a deformation monitoring system using GPS and georobot is proposed. Thispaper aims at the requirement of deformation monitoring during Sutong Bridge construction,introduces the realization and observing schemes of the GPS and georobot based remote real-timedynamic geometrical deformation monitoring system and enumerates some of the applicationresults. Long-term operation during Sutong Bridge construction indicates that the system runssteadily and the results are reliable.
