A Platform for Online Fluid Mechanics Laboratory

Fluid mechanics concepts are much difficult for teacher’s teaching and student’s learning. This paper will discuss the platform research of the online fluid mechanics laboratory, which combines remote access to actual equipments with software-based virtual experiments. The main consideration in the design of online laboratory environment is modularity. A common Remote Lab Controller was presented with controlling and monitoring capabilities for accessing different hands-on equipments. The overall software architecture and implementations for the real-time interactive remote Lab system was described. A virtual Lab model with graphic, 2D animation and 3D virtual instrument is described, which is very helpful to students for better understanding theoretical concepts, and is characterized by good telepresence experiment environment, expanded the scope of real experiment. This online Lab can be valuable and perhaps even preferable alternatives to the traditional hands-on experiments.
