Time modulated linear antenna arrays consisting ofprinted dipoles above a ground plane are simulated using thefinite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method.The FDTDmethod brings great convenience to the investigation of the timedomain responses of moving phase center antenna arrays.Inconjunction with the near-to-far field transformation in timedomain,the far-field transient response can be computed toexplain the physical essence of time modulated linear arrays withbidirectional phase center motion (BPCM).By employing thediscrete Fourier Transform (DFT) and the frequency domainnear-to-far field transformation,the radiation patterns at thefrequencies of interest are obtained and are compared with themeasured results.Simulation results show that the FDTDmethod is an effective and accurate approach for the full-wavesimulation of time modulated antenna arrays.
