It is a quite complex problem about stability criterion of against deeper and shallow layer sliding of gravity dam.For reflecting main feature of rock failure along softness constructional surface and presenting behavior of constructional surface all the better,deformation and stress distribution are analyzed by elastoplastic block element method in this paper.Stability against deeper and shallow layer sliding and failure evolutionary process are studied by indirect method of dam and complex foundation in Xiangjiaba engineering.The stability safety degree of dam and foundation system is at least 2.5.The results indicate that block element method is a applicable and effective method for stress,deformation and stability of analysis of dam and foundation under complex geologic condition.
