Alicyclic Polyimides Derived from Polyalicyclic Dianhydride and Aromatic Diamine

@@Polyimides are classified into four distinct categories according to their chemical structures, aromatic polyimides, two types of semi-aromatic polyimides, and non-aromatic (fully aliphatic) polyimides. Most of aromatic polyimides are insoluble in common organic solvents, and intensely absorb visible light and colored reddish yellow or pale yellow. The origin of the colorlation is known to be caused by intra-and/or inter-molecular charge transfer. We have achieved the synthesis of soluble and colorless polyimides using polyalicyclic dianhydrides and aromatic diamines. Soluble, colorless and high-temperature polymers like alicyclic polyimides have much attention in recent years because of their potential applications including use as liquid crystal orientation layers, flexible organic ELD or solar-cell substrates. In the presentation, we will report the synthesis and the properties of the alicyclic polvimides as well as a synthetic method of dianhydrides.
