THE UTSIRA WIND/H_2 DEMONSTRATION SYSTEM IN NORWAY: AN EVALUATION OF THE OPERATION USING UPDATED SYSTEM MODELING TOOLS

Evaluation of operational data and simulations of the Utsira wind/H_2-system show that it is a challenge to achieve 100% stand-alone operation for longer periods of time. Full autonomy can only be achieved by improving the overall efficiency of the H_2-production system (electrolyzer) and by increasing the H_2-storage size and/or by increasing power generating efficiency of the unit (e.g., by switching from H2-engines to fuel cells).
