The SUPERCLAUS® Process has been in use in Industry since 1988, and now has over 130 Units in operation throughout the world. With a typical acid gas feed, a Claus SRU using a thermal stage, two Claus catalytic stages, and a final SUPERCLAUS stage can achieve an overall sulfur recovery efficiency of 98.8 - 99.2%. If the tail gas is incinerated and fed to a "MECS" Dyna Wave® Scrubber (using caustic), an overall sulfur recovery efficiency of 99.95+% (with 50-100 ppmv SO2 emissions) can easily be achieved. The Total Installed Cost (TIC) of the "SUPERCLAUS/DynaWave" (SC/DW) TGCU Process is estimated to be about 60-65% of the TIC of an "Amine-based-type" TGCU Unit. The operating cost of the SC/DW TGCU Process is very competitive with that of the Amine-based-type TGCU. The operation of the SC/DW Process is also much simpler.Four (4) DynaWave Scrubbers are operating as Claus TGCU Units in industry at present. Many other benefits result from the use of the SC/DW Process as compared to a Amine-based-type TGCU, such as: (1) stability to upsets in the upstream Claus SRU, (2) lower energy consumption, (3) lower CO_2 emissions, (4) lower maintenance cost, (5) less plot space requirements, and (6) higher on-stream factor for the SRU/TGCU complex.
