A collaborative research project submitted to and approved by European Science Foundation is detailed indicating how the individual partners scientific-technical potentials and experimental competences can be used cumulatively to provide scientific added value to an European joint collaboration between known partners and institutions.This project will contribute to harmonization and optimization of vibration control methods using different strategies in Civil Engineering within Europe.Some earlier experience is outlined on the seismic response of liquid tanks,and on semi-active protection systems for vibration control.The latter,allows understanding the differences of behavior between a viscous damper passive device and a semi-active damper applied to the same structural system.Results are outlined of an experimental campaign conducted by some project partners,on coupling liquid damping devices with rigid structural models.Experimental results indicate potential effectiveness of using liquid dampers for the specific cases studied.
