Electrical stimulation has evolved into a viable means of treating the sequelae of brain injury and stroke. In this paper, an intelligent neural healing instrument is developed to restore paralytic muscle. The control conception of the system is based on biofeedback. In addition, a novel developed method is proposed and implemented by digital signal processor (DSP) and complex programmable logic device (CLPD). A CPLD-based stimulator is used to generate a wide range of stimulating pulses. Thus, a DSP-based controller is released from complicated work. It can be absorbed in gathering for electromyographic (EMG) signals and judging for artificial intelligence, and implement selective parameters display simultaneously. Besides, a user-friendly interface is also developed, using series port for communicating with host computer, which can offer database management for medical record and dynamic display for EMG wave.
