Nonlinear dynamics and control characteristics for a laminated composite beam embedded by the giant magnetostrictive material (GMM) layers were investigated. In this simulation of nonlinear dynamic control system, the negative velocity feedback and the analytical nonlinear constitutive model for GMM were employed. The numerical results of dynamic response under simple harmonic alternating magnetic fields display obvious nonlinear vibration characteristics. In addition, the controlled results under the control of magnetic field display mat this proposed approach is efficient, not only in the linear zone but also in the nonlinear zone of magnetostrictive curves in the vibration suppression.
