Perimeter control of eroded sediment on pipeline construction sites is always a challenge and becomes extremely difficult if the pipeline is constructed through hilly terrain. Researchers at Oklahoma State University (OSU) and The Charles Machine Works, Inc. (CMW is the manufacturer of Ditch Witch~? construction equipment.) have collaborated to develop an effective silt fence and mechanized installation system which is ideally suited for pipeline construction. Controlled field testing of the system with simulated rainfall has shown it to be effective with slopes up to 20 percent. Recently-completed field testing on a construction site with natural rainfall shows superior performance compared to conventional silt fence installed in comparable conditions.
