Selecting Maqiao, Baokuang country, Hubei province in China as the study area, authors study comparatively monitoring effect on mine exploitation using Beijing-1 microsatellite and SPOT5 panchromatic data. Firstly, authors evaluating comprehensive performance of Beijing-1 microsatellite and SPOT5 panchromatic data by means of geometric distortion, statistic information content and margin of ground object. Both of them can meet the requirement of monitoring mine exploitation. Secondly, authors study their recognition ability of main mine ground objects, respectively. They all can recognize mine road, opencast mining area and environment damage from building mine road in dense vegetation covered district. And authors calculate optimum and maximum mapping scale for Beijing-1 microsatellite and SPOT5 panchromatic data. Study result provides theory foundation for Beijing-1 microsatellite on monitoring mine exploitation when doing this work in the whole country.
