PRODUCTION SAFETY DURING WOOD-BASED PANELS PRODUCTION

By installing spark extinguishing systems in mechanical or pneumatic conveying systems, fire hazards can be prevented. Sensitive spark sensors detect sparks and burning embers and extinguish them automatically by a water spray system or another adequate extinguishing means, to prevent fires or dust explosions in the following plant areas, like filters or silos. A panel production plant (particleboard, MDF or OSB) will be taken as example to explain possible solutions of this fire and explosion prevention technology. Regarding machine protection, the range covers monitoring of drying processes in milling, sieving and drying systems up to press protection by automatic extinguishing systems. Many disturbances can be traced by the plant operator at any time due to a millisecond-accurate data recording of the sensor technology installed in the production process. In this way, safety holes can be closed and at the same time the availability of the production system can be increased.
