In determining true clinical utility and patient benefits of a new diagnostic technique, a variety of issues become important, which are often not considered during the proof-of-concept stage. These relate to the overall cost to the health-care system, user friendliness and clinical practicality, likelihood of adoption, the appropriate statistics for demonstration clinical value, and the relevance of the technology to the specific disease.
