THE PALTODUS DELTIFER ZONE (LATE TREMADOCIAN；EARLY ORDOVICIAN) IN ARGENTINA:NEW CONODONT DATA FOR INTERCONTINENTAL CORRELATION AND PALEOBIOGEOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS

1 INTRODUCTIONThe purpose of present contribution is to review the conodont biostratigraphy and turnover patterns of conodont faunas in the Lower Ordovician Paltodus deltifer Zone in the Cuyania terrane，Famatina System，and Eastern Cordillera of Argentina (Text-fig.1)，and to provide an updated analysis of regional and intercontinental correlations of this unit.Relatively little has been published on the Tremadocian conodont faunas from the South American margin Of Gondwana but the present study documents new Argentine faunas with species of diverse paleobiogeographic affinities which provide laew linkages for intercontinental correlation.
