A power converter with an unstable input high voltage (2000…4000 V DC) and stable output three-phase voltage 380 V, 50 Hz AC is presented. The converter's input circuit contains one step-up chopper or several step-up choppers connected in series. Different methods of controlling step-up chopper's switch are considered. Electrical characteristics of converters with implementation of these controlling principles are investigated. As a result of the research carried out the next basic equations and characteristics were obtained: the dependences of chopper output voltage, output current, voltages and currents in semiconductor devices on control pulse duty factor and number of power modules. The CASPOC simulation of high voltage converters power circuits has been carried out for the purpose of monitoring the viability of the proposed equations and diagrams. Simulation results have confirmed that the theoretical principles devised and the equations elaborated are suitable for the design procedure of the high voltage power converter.
