Primary considerations for decommissioning of the Shielding experimental reactor inthe INET, Tsinghua University

The Shielding Experimental Reactor reached its first criticality on September 29, 1964. Thedesign lifetime is 20 years. Up to now, it has been operating for more than 40 years now. It faces the problems ofdecommissioning. This article briefly introduces its initial decommissioning plan, including decommissioningobjective, scope, steps and rad-waste treatment and disposal, etc. The article describes current preparatory workplan, e.g. actual status investigation, source term survey, research and development of decontaminationtechniques, core internals dismantling plan, development of a decommissioning database etc,.
