An examination of the Extent of and the Potential for Arab Economic Integration

Since World War II the regional economic integration has become a viable strategy in the field of economic development, especially for developing countries. The region of Arab countries is one among several regions in the world have made efforts to achieve the economic integration, such these regions as the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN, 1967), West African States (ECOWAS, 1975), and the European Union (EU). The purpose of this study is to examine the extent of and the potential for Arab economic integration. The analysis of this study employs the Gravity model to estimate intra-Arab trade as well as intra-Arab investment. Statistical description of intra-Arab labour flows will be provided; the concern period of this study is 1985-2005.
