TAGIT - SAFER TRANSPORT OF HAZARDOUS GOODS IN TUNNELS

TAG|IT is a pilot project on automated hazardous goods monitoring in tunnels, operated by ASFINAG, Austria's motorway authority. During a four month test, a preselected test fleet of hazardous goods vehicles will pass regularly through one highly frequented tunnel in southern Austria. Their passage will be recognized at three communication points, using DSRC and RFID technology. Cargo information can then be retrieved from a central database, where participating companies have entered cargo data before each trip, using a personalized web portal. Project goals include a suitability determination regarding chosen technologies and system design as well as a user acceptance evaluation.
