INCENTIVE SCHEMES FOR A CLEANER URBAN ENVIRONMENT: -THE CASE OF THE CITY OF GOTEBORG

This paper outlines four different ways of reducing pollution from road transport, which have been used by the City of Goteborg: · Incentives for improving the load factor in inner-city freight distribution · Incentives for car sharing · Restricted Environmental Zone · Incentive scheme for eco vehicles These urban traffic management tools have worked well in Goteborg and can be used in other cities worldwide, smaller as well as larger. The paper presents the main results and experiences from G?teborg, and discusses to what extent various technological solutions have contributed, or could contribute, to the different incentive schemes.
