Throughout their careers, Canadian engineers will be presented with many opportunities to apply their expertise, knowledge and experience to develop solutions to technical and social problems around the globe. These opportunities may come in many forms, from providing advice to the many International lending agencies, to humanitarian assistance to direct involvement in development assistance projects or programs. The need for civil engineering expertise is as great now as it ever was, however, the context in which engineers are now being asked to contribute has changed greatly; the technical expert is much less in demand and the skills of a collaborative problem solver is now in great demand This workshop examines realistic opportunities for CSCE members to contribute to philanthropic, volunteerism and commercial approaches to civil engineering in the field of global development engineering.
