Major Factors Influencing Construction Productivity in Industrial Congested Sites

Construction often involves a large number of trades working simultaneously on a singleconstruction site. These trades also work interdependently to share construction spaces and may requirethe same area or space on the site at the same time. For following reasons, conducting an exclusivestudy to find ways for improving productivity in congested construction sites is of vital importance. First,almost all construction sites are potentially prone to congestion and tight conditions of congested sitescan lead to low construction productivity. Second, applicable methods for improving productivity incongested construction sites may slightly be different from those for ordinary construction sites.The objective of this study is to identify and prioritize the factors influencing construction productivity inindustrial congested sites. The findings of this study show that at least 9 important factors includingconstruction logistics, preassembly and prefabrication techniques, construction site housekeeping,simulation and virtual construction, type of construction equipment, standard construction, constructionmethods, variation extent of construction materials, and construction safety have direct influence onconstruction productivity in industrial congested sites.
