This article discuss the structure and requirement and construction pressure of power industry Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs). It mainly focuses on the MSTP architecture which bases on Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) and Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology and also the combination use of the two technologies in power industry MAN construction, which gains the unparalleled advantage and will be the feasible design to the future optical network.
