Fluorochemical finishes are truly unique in their ability to deliver stain and soil resistance and repellency effects to textiles. Recently, concerns regarding the broad presence of fluorinated substances in the environment have raised questions about fluorochemical finishes. This paper provides an overview of textile fluorochemical chemistry, use, benefits, and safety and environmental understanding with a focus on what informed users need to know about these products and what's being done by industry to address the concerns.
