Throughout the textile and apparel supply chain all activities must be constantly focused on consumers' needs and wants in order to be competitive. This is an important consideration because customers purchase products that they feel are of value to them. In the past the customer was forced to purchase what the manufacturer had mass produced and the retailer had made available for sale. Recently, this system has been supplemented to allow the opportunity for the customer to tell the retailer what products they want to purchase, where they expect to purchase the product, and what price they expect to pay. Mass customization is one way a customer can receive a product that fulfills their wants and needs at a reasonable price.
