Environmental impact and consumer safety have become increasingly important in the global textile market. Brand owners and retailers apply their own environmental standards to gain the confidence of their customers. "Restricted Substance Lists" are requiring the absence or limiting the concentration of certain chemical substances in the product or on the finished textiles. The RSL's are defined and updated by retailers and brand owners. Often, these proprietary standards are linked with the company's corporate social responsibility programs.
