Maleic anhydride (MAH) grafted polymers, such as MAH-g-SEBS, MAH-g-EPDM, MAH-g-PP, MAH-g-PE have been widely used as compatilizers to enhance the compatibility between micro- and nano-sized inorganic fillers and polymer matrix. However, little information is available on the self-toughening of MAH grafted polymers on the same polymer matrix. In the present work, linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) was grafted with MAH by solid-phase grafting reaction, two kinds of MAH grafted LLDPE (MAH-g-LLDPE) with different grafting degree of 1.26 and 3.0% were received, and denoted as LGPE and HGPE, respectively. Then, 10 wt% LGPE and HGPE were respectively compounded with LLDPE in the molten state. The mechanical properties and structure of LLDPE/LGPE and LLDPE/HGPE blends were investigated.
