Studies have been carried out to improve the discharge ratecapability, reduce the anode corrosion and mitigate the voltage delay ofthe Li/SO2Cl2 cell. Addition of SO2 orSO2/SOCl2 as the cosolvent improved thestorability and low temperature performance of Li/SO2Cl2 cells. Carefully purified electrolyte as well as addition of Ca2+ reduced the voltage delay of the cells. A new catalystprepared from polyacrylonitrile and cobaltous acetate increased the loadvoltage by more than 350 mW over that of an uncatalyzed cell, at 25mA/cm2
