The OmniTread Serpentine Robot for Radiation Surveillance

Many DOE applications require inspections andsurveillance in hard-to-reach and sometimes hazardousareas. A relatively new kind of robotic mechanism,called a “serpentine robot,” may be able to provide asolution to some of these applications. Serpentinerobots are slender, multi-segmented vehicles designedto provide greater mobility than conventional wheeledor tracked robots.
