Presented in this paper is a summary of the research efforts in level of service (LOS)standards and procedures for airport passenger terminal components. LOS measures are reviewed anddiscussed according to their applicability to the design of terminal curbsides, check-in counters, departurelounges, and planning for orientation (wayfinding). The paper first starts by presenting the state of the artof facilities planning at an airport passenger terminal. Subsequently, it is provided a summary of methodsfor LOS evaluation. The final part of this paper aims to propose the areas that demand more study andhow that is being developed at the University of Calgary.
