NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN TRAFFIC OPERATIONS IN THE CITY OFEDMONTON

The presentation will provide an overview of new equipment and techniques that the City ofEdmonton is applying to enhance traffic flow and safety. The presentation will address components of theCity's Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) implementation strategy, traffic safety initiatives, and signalanalysis tools. This includes:· Traffic Control Centre· CCTV traffic monitoring and traveler information· Video detection at traffic signals· Variable Message Signs, mobile and permanent· Red Light Cameras· Traffic Responsive System· Pedestrian Countdown Devices and In-pavement Flashers· Bridge Anti-icing System using Fixed Automated Spray Technology· GPS for travel time studies· Synchro & SimTraffic software for traffic signal analysis.
