SOCIOLOGICALLY-BASED PROCESS MODIFICATIONS TO AFFECT PROJECT SUCCESS

Although the sociological factors of developer commitment, confidence, and consistency are reported to be important contributors to project success, little guidance is available to the project manager regarding the effective incorporation of these factors into project process. We outline the relationships among these sociological factors as revealed by scientifically grounded research, and apply these established relationships to the domain of software engineering project process. Based on this application, we determine specific project process activities that will influence project success. We assess these activities in relation to traditional and non-traditional software engineering development methodologies, and identify those elements of the process that are supportive of, and those that may be detrimental to, project success.
