Based on ultrasonic nondestructive examination, an A-scan flaw inspection instrument is developed. It is an intelligent instrument, which is used to detect flaws in steel plates and is automatic inspection and alarming. In this article, system hardware structure is introduced, the data processing unit is described and especially the method to realize high-speed data processing is presented. The instrument is processed with wave peak values and can realize real-time A-scan display of echo on a screen. At the same time, distance-amplitude-curve (DAC) and system working parameters are displayed on the screen too. The inspection results can be stored or printed. System parameters can be set according to the practical inspection requirements. The main characteristics of the instrument are mini outlook, lightweight and low power consumption, which make it a more portable and more convenient device than those conventional ones.
