For a scenario-specific (4,4) multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) system in a corridor, we predict the channel matrix between the transmit and receive ports through image ray tracing (IRT) simulations. The physical arrays at the transmit/receive ends are 4 linear equally spaced λ/2-dipoles (vertically polarized, horizontally arranged and λ/2 separated) connected to the transmit/receive ports either directly (separate λ/2-dipole patterns) or through a static/adaptive beamforming network (collocated patterns). For collocated radiation, we use either static patterns (Butler beamformer) or adaptive patterns (collocated phased-array). Accordingly, we show the capacity improvement through adaptive patterns assuming a narrow-band frequency-flat channel (2.4 GHz operating frequency) for each scenario.
