The system controls vehicles by allocating destination times to the individual vehicles for arrival and/or departure of the vehicles at defined traffic junctions. The traffic control system has an arrangement for adapting defined predictions of the arrival and/or departure results to a defined capacity of the traffic junction to determine a predicted achievable traffic flow at the junction and allocating destination times to the individual vehicles so that the predicted achievable traffic flow is achieved in the most optimal manner.
