Spiral waves in cardiac tissue serve as a simplified model ofventricular fibrillation (VF). Initiation and termination of the spiralwave is studied in a computer model. The computer model comprises a twodimensional, bidomain, discontinuous and anisotropic network of cardiaccells. In an analogous experimental preparation, electrical activity isimaged using a voltage sensitive fluorescent dye. The model and theexperiment reproduce similar spiral wave activity. Application ofelectrical shock of adequate strength, in the model as well as theexperiment, eliminated the spiral wave pattern
