A Cross-Relation Technique for Detection of Targets in Phased Array Radars

摘要

In this paper a cross-relation based technique isproposed for target detection and clutter suppression in aphased array radar system. By including the angularspreading model into the cross-relation technique, we areable to effectively address the multi-path effect in a radar.We examine the proposed technique on the High FrequencySurface Wave Radar (HFSWR) that is a phased array radardesigned to detect maritime vessels and low-flying aircraftsin excess of the visible horizon. This radar operates withinthe congested HF band that contains both external and selfinterference sources. Experimental results are presentedusing data collected from this radar on the East Coast ofCanada. The presented results show the effectiveness of thecross-relation technique in clutter suppression and targetdetection improvement.
