Fire design of multi-storey steel-framed buildings considering realistic natural fires

摘要

This contribution investigates the fire design rules for structural members and systems of multistorey buildings (residential and office buildings) considering the risk of natural fires. In most countries the fire design rules are still based on the results of fire tests according to the standard temperature-time curve (ISO 834). They are supposed to cover all boundary conditions that occur in practice concerning fire load, ventilation and construction on the safe side. The fire safety design of a building on the basis of the realistic natural fire and the real behavior of the entire structural system is risk-oriented as well as economical, as reserves of the system not yet considered so far can be activated. Using international experience and test results and ongoing research of iBMB, a design fire is developed and so-called real fire curves are derived. They serve as a basis for general calculation methods (according to Eurocodes) which are able to grasp the real behavior of structural systems in a fire.
