摘要

The ever-increasing growth in population of India coupled with the tendency of paying higher prices of water in industrial and urban sectors in the country calls for increased productivity in agriculture per unit of water, maintaining the quality of production base at the same time. This is possible only through the integrated use of water, reorienting the water management strategies, providing additional storage capacities, improving farming systems, introducing rotational land use and increasing water use efficiency. Their adoption is possible only through data base generation, maintenance, development and management on a micro-watershed level. An attempt has been made in this paper to highlight the need for scientific management water resources through water conservation, storage and its efficient utilization on watershed basis.
