This paper proposes a new idea of thermal energy storage (TES) technology which is not to directly store cold or heat energy, but is to change a kind of energy, such as electric, heat and other formal energy, into the refrigerating/heating potential - chemical potential of working fluids, and then the potential is stored. When the consumers need cold or thermal energy, the stored potential can easily be transformed into cold or thermal energy by means of refrigeration or heat pump. So the TES technology is called as refrigerating/heating potential storage (R/HPS) technology.
