A tool to support environmentally preferable purchasing of electronic products

This paper presents a project status report and solicits feedback on the development of an environmental assessment tool for electronic product design to assist public procurement agencies in environmentally preferable purchasing. The project grew out of a subgroup of the Western Electronic Product Stewardship Initiative, which examined the potential for market mechanisms for product design-for-end-of-life management. The inter-relationship between environmental design and the development of an end-of-life infrastructure, as envisioned by the National Electronic Product Stewardship Initiative, is explored.
