Compared to traditional design-bid-build method, fast-tracking delivery method providesmore potential in responding to the rapidly changing world and shortening the period of project delivery;however, completed construction project experience shows that the potential of fast-tracking methodmight not always be realized. Cost overrun and schedule delay can occur due to higher uncertainties inthe projects. The key to achieving the advantage of fast-tracking method lies on effective coordination inthe project processes. To ensure the coordination is effective and efficient, project management needs toset up an appropriate project team and look into critical elements in the progress of a project. Theinfluences of different organizational structures on the project coordination are discussed. Importantfactors in project coordination and patterns of information flow in the process are investigated through acase study on an ongoing fast track project.
