The use of recycled concrete aggregates such as that from demolished waste or building rubbles after an earthquake could not only contribute to the solution of waste disposal and to the conservation of natural resources which are scarce in some regions but also reduce the cost of buildings. This paper reports on the performance of concrete made using recycled fine and coarse aggregates. Either natural sand was partially replaced (25, 50,75 and 100%) or only coarse aggregates or both. Compressive and flexural strengths were compared with those of concrete made using natural aggregates up to the 90 days of age. The properties of the aggregates are compared. Water absorption, water permeability and shrinkage were also measured. The results indicate that it is possible to produce good quality concrete using recycled aggregates. However, the quantity of recycled fines should be limited. Relationships between tensile and compressive strength such as the conventional ones are proposed for recycled aggregate concrete.
