ECONOMIC DRIVERS OF A CENTRALIZED TESTING STRATEGY IN SONET/SDH NETWORKS

In this paper, we outlined the testing needs and challenges facing service providers in data and TDM networks. In addition, we described a comprehensive centralized testing strategy for those networks. By using this strategy, service providers will be able to increase customer satisfaction and improve operational metrics. The reduction of MTTI, MTTP, and MTTR drives both operational improvement and customer satisfaction. Improved satisfaction is evidenced by reduced customer churn and lower SLA rebates to the customer. In addition, even a 3-day reduction in the MTTP provides a significant economic benefit by accelerating the revenue recognition from a customer. Overall, implementing a centralized test system for SONET/SDH and data networks provides an attractive economic return for service providers.
