Tunable Surface Energy Control Using Novel Block Copolymer Brushes

By using a single model block copolymer brush system with a hydrolysable component, we have demonstrated various ways of surface energy control. Different surface energies were first obtained by adjusting the polymer brush surface covering density via different reaction times. Furthermore, by simply changing washing solvents (with different polarities), the surface energy was tuned through a chain conformation adjustment mechanism. Additionally, the surface energy can also be changed by selectively hydrolyzed one of polymer blocks in the polymer brush.
