Six Meltblown (MB) polypropylene (PP) fabrics with different fiber diameters and basis weights were charged using corona-charging method to make electrets for this research. The effect of fiber diameter and electret basis weight as well as the temperature in which the electret resides on the charge decay rate was studied. A mathematical model was developed to simulate the long-term charge decay rate at room temperature by accelerating the charge decay of the electrets at elevated temperatures. The results of the mathematical model had a good agreement with the experimental data. Therefore, the model is useful to predict the electret charge decay rate at ambient temperature or at the temperatures of interest. The half-life times of the charge decay for these six electrets were calculated using the model.
