The aim of this investigations was to increase the wear resistance and the corrosion resistance of magnesium alloys. It can be noticed, that the coating of magnesium alloys is practicable with PTA welding and laser welding. The quality of coatings depends on the composition of the strap material, on the composition of the coating material (matrix material, carbides) and the welding parameters. The magnesium alloys AM5O and AZ31 are suitable for coating. But microporosity is not available. The best results were obtained with a coating matrix material of AlSi12 and addition of B{sub}4C. This coatings have a fine and homogeneous structure.
